Abbeville's Third Annual Olde South Christmas

 

You are invited to visit the lovely old town of Abbeville for the week-end of December 2nd , 3rd and 4th to join us in celebrating Abbeville's Third Annual Olde South Christmas.  The week-end begins on Friday 2 December with carriage rides from 2-6 PM and carolling on the Square at the base of the town's Christmas tree from 6:30-8:00 PM.  Carolling will then continue at the McGowan/Bundy House till--.  Wassail will be served at the McGowan/ Bundy House and there will be a five dollar fee to the house.  Many re-enactors and craftsmen will start setting up Friday afternoon. 

 

Saturday morning will start with a re-enactors, carollers, merchants, and visitor's breakfast at the Dutch Oven (dutch treat).  Carriage rides will begin at 11:00 AM and continue all day.  Carollers will stroll around town singing during the day and you will be able to have your picture taken with Father Christmas as he walks around town dispensing seasons cheer.  Or you might want to have your picture taken with one or all three of the police officers that will be in period dress.  Throughout the day, the re-enactors will be staging living history events and period craftsmen will demonstrate their skills.  There will be carolling on stage several times during the day.  As you visit the many unique shops located on and just off the Square you may run into a couple of famous people from our past.  You will certainly want to pay a visit to the full-size reproduction of the Confederate submarine, The H.  L. Hunley.  Most of the activities will be free.  There will be periods games for both children and adults at various locations in and around town.  During the day there will be carolling and refreshment at Abbeville's Welcome Center located on the Square.  If all of this were not enough to have you come visit us, we will also have a ghost walk and then to end the wonderful day we invite you to join us for the grand finaleThe Olde South Christmas Ball at Abbeville's Civic Center.

 

Sunday morning activities will begin with church services at 10 AM led by Father Anderson of Maryland, who is a re-enacting Confederate chaplain.  In the afternoon there will be a Christmas performance at Trinity Episcopal Church by the Abbeville Chorale Society and carriage rides will again be provided.   Also, during the week-end the Abbeville Opera House will be staging a play and the Heritage House will have at least seven houses open for a Tour of Homes from 1-5 PM.   Tickets and additional information for the tour can be obtained at the Welcome Center. 

 

The Burt/Stark, McGowan/Bundy Houses, Trinity Church and the Abbeville Museum will all be open for your viewing pleasure.
