You are invited to visit the lovely old village of Abbeville for the weekend of 1st through the 3rd of December to join us in celebrating Abbeville's Fourth Annual Olde South Christmas. The weekend begins Friday 1 December with carriage rides, carolling, re-enactors, merchants in period dress, Father Christmas, period-uniformed policemen, period cooking, etc. Carolling on the steps of the courthouse will begin at 6:00 PM and last as long as our many performers can hold out.
Saturday begins with a breakfast (for a fee) at the Ole South Cookery at the Burt/Stark House. We invite all re-enactors, carollers, merchants, and visitors to join us. Carriage rides begin at 11:00 AM and continue throughout the day and the carollers will be performing at various locations at various times around the village. Re-enactors skits will be performed at various places during the day, period craftsmen will show their skills and handiworks on the Square, the Confederate submarine H. L. Hunley will be on display at Jefferson Davis Park, period games for children and adults will be at various locations around the village, Father Christmas will be walking around the Square, a period photographer will take your picture for a fee and may encounter several famous people from the past roaming the village. At noon you will want to watch or participate in the Olde South Promenade (Parade). You will want to drop into the Southern Patriot Shop during the day and meet some of the twenty-plus authors and musicians helping us in the “Celebration of the South” in word and music. To cap off this wonderful day we invite you to join us at the Second Annual Olde South Christmas Ball.
We will begin Sunday with a church service on Secession Hill and then you can join us for breakfast at the Ole South Cookery. The carriage will again be available for your enjoyment. At 2:00 PM there will be carolling at Trinity Episcopal Church.
