Olde South Christmas 2006

Proposed Itinerary

 

“Come to Abbeville and step back in time.”

Friday 1 Dec.  

                                    Carriage rides starting at 11:00 AM-till (Charge)

                                    Caroling on the Square on courthouse steps 6:30 PM-till (Free)

                                    Caroling and music at the Welcome Center if too cold

                                    Hot chocolate and/or coffee at the Welcome Center (Charge)

                                    Festival of Trees at the Belmont  all day (Free)

                                    The Crystal Christmas Tree at the Hill House (Charge)

                                    Dickens village at the Welcome Center (Open 10:00 AM  Free)

                                    Burt/Stark House open  1:30-4:30 PM (Charge)

                               McGowan/Bundy House open  1:30-4:30 PM (Charge)

                                    The H. L. Hunley (Confederate submarine) at the Jefferson Davis Park

                                    (Free)

                                    Period cooking (Ole South Cookery)  the Burt/Stark House (Charge) Starts

                                    at 5 PM

                                    Father Christmas and period-uniformed policemen in the village

                                    Re-enactors (Hampton's Legion and others) set up camp(s)   Visit (Free)

                                    Refreshments at various merchants' shops (Free)

                                    Shopping at town shops until 8:00 PM

                                    Play at the Opera House---”A Country Christmas Carol” (8:00 PM Charge)

 

 

Saturday 2 Dec.    

                                    Merchants/carolers/re-enactors/craftsmen/visitors, etc. breakfast at the Old

                                    South Cookery tent at Burt/Stark House  8:00 AM  (Open at 7:00 AM

                                    Charge)

                                    Friends of the Library book sale in the library's basement  10:00 AM to 1:00

                                    PM

                                    Carriage rides beginning at 11:00 AM-till (Charge)

                                    Town criers on the Square starting at 10:00 AM

                                    Re-enactors' skits through-out day at various locations (Free)

                                    Re-enactors' camp at the Burt/Stark House   Visit all day (Free)

                                    Festival of Trees at the Belmont all day (Free)

                                    The Crystal Christmas Tree at the Hill House 2:00-5:00 PM (Charge)

                                    Dickens village at the Welcome Center (Open 10:00 AM  Free)

                                    Hot chocolate and/or coffee at the Welcome Center (Charge)

                                    Caroling throughout the day at various locations (Free)

                                    Music at the Welcome Center at various times during the day (Free)

                                    Period music in the Side Pocket at the Rough House during the day (Free)

                                    Burt/Stark House  10:00 AM-5:00 PM (Charge)

                                    McGowan/Bundy House open 10:00 AM-5:00 PM (Charge)

                                    Museum open 11:00 AM-3:00 PM (Donation appreciated)

                                    The H. L. Hunley (Confederate submarine) at Jefferson Davis Park all day

                                    Period craftsmen on the Square (Free)

                                    Period photographer  1:00-3:00 PM and 4:00-6:00 PM (charge)

                                    “Celebration of the South in Word and Music” at the Southern Patriot Shop

                                    (Twenty-five plus authors and musicians 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Free)

                                    Period games for children and adults at Burt/Stark House at various times

                                    (Free)

                                    Olde South Promenade (Parade) at 12:00 PM (carolers, re-enactors,

                                    merchants, period craftsmen, visitors (in period dress, please), etc. are

                                    invited to participate.  Assemble at 11:30 in parking across from Civic

                                    Center)

                                    Story telling at the library 2:00-4:00 PM (Free)

                                    Refreshments at various merchants' shops (Free)

                                    Father Christmas and period-uniformed policemen

                                    Tour of Homes  1-5 PM (Charge) Tickets available at Welcome Center that

                                    day

                                    Caroling on courthouse steps on the Square at 2:00 PM featuring the

                                    Greenwood

                                    Christian School and many others  (Free)

                                    Ghost/history walk  6:00 PM (starts at the Welcome Center) (Charge)

                                    Olde South Christmas Ball  7:30 PM-until (band “Un-Reconstructed”

                                    performing) Tickets available at the Southern Patriot Shop and the

                                    Welcome Center

                                    Play at the Opera House---”A Country Christmas Carol” (Charge)

                                    Shopping until 8:00 PM

 

 

 

 

Sunday 3 Dec.

                                    Church service on Burt/Stark grounds (carolers, re-enactors,

                                    merchants, craftsmen, visitors, etc. invited to attend)  9:30 AM

                                    Period breakfast at the Burt/Stark House after church service  10:30 AM

                                    (Charge)

                                    Carriage rides   11:00 PM-till (Charge)

                                    Town criers on the Square

                                    The H. L. Hunley (Confederate submarine) at Jefferson Davis Park (Free)

                                    Caroling at Trinity  2:00 PM (Donation appreciated)

                                    Festival of Trees at the Belmont (Free)

Events and times may, of necessity, be changed.  An up-to-date itinerary and event location map will be available during the weekend of Olde South Christmas.
